There are several types of funding for in home aged care you can apply for, depending upon your needs.
The Australian Government provides aged care funding for Australians who are aged 65 years and over, an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander over 50 years old, or a person who is at risk of, or is experiencing homelessness and is over 50 years old.
To apply for funding, you will need to contact My Aged Care and ask for an assessment. Your assessor will then tell you which type of funding you are eligible to receive.
Find out how to apply for government aged care funding. Once you’ve completed an assessment you will know which type of funding, you’re eligible to receive.
Here are the different types of home care funding you can receive:

The two types of home care funding you may be eligible for are:
- Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP): This is an entry level service funding that provides basic home support services such as personal care, domestic assistance, social support, home and garden maintenance, nursing, and allied health.
- Home Care Package (HCP): A package is often the next step from CHSP and offers services for higher support needs.
Funding for short term care
If you need temporary assistance to recover from a health event or rebuild your independence, you may be eligible for:
- Short Term Restorative Care (STRC): Funding for support to help you restore your health and manage everyday tasks at home for up to eight weeks.
- Transition Care Program (TCP): Funding for services to help you recover your confidence and independence at home after a hospital stay for up to 12 weeks.
