Bev blessed by best care
When local Narrogin resident Bev Coultas faced an anxious and stressful situation, her Silverchain care providers provided her additional support.
Bev and her partner, Dan, live independently, with Bev receiving multiple visits each week for personal services and domestic assistance. These services also provide essential support and respite for Dan, her primary carer.
But Dan recently had to travel overseas to care for an unwell friend, with Bev unable to accompany him due to her health. This left her feeling abandoned and deeply distressed, while Dan felt torn between his caregiving responsibilities and the need to care for his friend abroad.
Bev and Dan’s anxiety was evident to the Silverchain team of carers. They escalated their concerns to Kelly Maley, Care Team Leader who paid Bev a personal visit to discuss how Silverchain could help.
A plan was put into place, and everyone in the team rallied when asked if they could help.
“The response was overwhelming,” Kelly said. “But I expected nothing less, our Silverchain team provide best care to our clients every day.”
“Immediately, team members volunteered to start earlier, stay later, and pick up extra shifts to ensure Bev was cared for in Dan’s absence.”
The team coordinated extra visits for meal preparation and welfare checks, ensuring Bev felt safe and supported throughout the week. At each extra visit, the team would heat meals for Bev, tidy and remove trip hazards, look after her personal care needs.
Sitting and chatting with Bev also helped her to pass the time, and she was always left with a movie on to keep her entertained when the team had to leave.
Small changes were also made around the house, such as making everything in the kitchen easily accessible for Bev, placing a table in reach next to her lounge chair with her phone, book, and other essentials.
Dan was able to travel to care for his friend and know Bev was safe and supported at home.
Bev was surprised at the speed in which the Silverchain team provided support.
“We were so thankful to the local Silverchain team for the extra support they provided,” Bev said. “It was immediate, they are all such lovely girls.”
“I felt safe, cared for, and surrounded by warm, friendly people. The team not only met my personal care needs but also provided emotional reassurance and practical solutions to ease to help manage my anxiety.”
Kelly said the Narrogin care team were recently recognised at Silverchain’s internal awards for stepping in to help Bev during her time for need.
But for Kelly, the real win was knowing Bev felt supported.
“To hear Bev’s sincere gratitude made me remember why we love our job so much. It is very rewarding to know we have made a difference in someone’s wellbeing and life.
