If you have successfully completed a My Aged Care (MAC) assessment and are waiting for your approved aged care funding to be assigned, you have several options while you wait.

It can take several months for your funding to become available to spend on the support you need. Following your assessment, you will have a recommendation on which funding program you are eligible for. If you are eligible for the Commonwealth Home Support Program, your assessor will let you know at the end of your assessment or if you are eligible for the Support at Home program, you will receive a letter from My Aged Care confirming your eligibility after your assessment.

While you wait you can start to choose the best provider for your needs. If you need care, and do not wish to wait for government funding you can also choose to self fund your services.

Self fund (or privately fund) your services

You can self fund any of our aged care services, whenever you need them. With privately funded care, you do not need to meet any Government criteria or be assessed by My Aged Care to start receiving services.

If you are already receiving in home aged care services funded by the Commonwealth Home Support Program, and have been assessed for the Support at Home program, you can also choose to pay privately for any additional, or new services you need during this time.

Waiting for Support at Home program (SAH) funding

Wait times for Support at Home funding can vary based on your priority level. Your assessor will evaluate the urgency and provide you with a priority rating, which can be: Standard, Medium, High or Urgent. If you have not already completed an Income and Assets Assessment, we suggest doing so now, this will determine your contribution to your care. Contact Services Australia on 1800 227 475 to complete a ‘Support at Home calculation of your cost of care form’. You can also complete this online.

If you need services sooner, contact your My Aged Care assessor to ask if you can receive interim funding for CHSP services while waiting for your SAH funding. Any assigned CHSP services will end once your SAH funding is assigned and is taken up.

Find out more about your private options here. Contact our Contact Centre at 1300 650 803 or complete our enquiry form to get started.
