Your donation can help people like Renee continue to access critical support, 24 hours a day.

Renee began caring for her mother, Robyn, at home after they received the heart-breaking news from her mother’s oncologist that they didn’t have long.

Renee said her mother had always said she wanted to stay at home for as long as possible. “I don’t know if Mum knew she was at the end of her life, but she kept saying, ‘I love being here. I just love being at home,’ and that gave me a lot of comfort,” Renee said.

Renee built strong relationships with the dedicated Silverchain nurses and says she always felt supported and confident to care for her mother in their absence.

Thanks to our 24-hour palliative care teams, Renee was able to receive critical support to care for her mother at home.

“I don’t know how I would have gotten through it without Silverchain.” – Renee

Renee still vividly recalls the time she was guided by a Silverchain employee over the phone to care for her mother in a frightening situation.

“One night I woke in the middle of the night to find Mum was very distressed and in a lot of pain,” Renee said.

“It was very difficult to see Mum like that, in so much pain. I panicked and didn’t know what to do, so I called Silverchain straight away and they guided me step-by-step over the phone to make up Mum’s pain relief medicine.

“That was a scary experience for me, and I don’t know how I would have gotten through it without Silverchain.”
