Getting an assessment
To receive Government funding for home care, you will first need to have an assessment.
The assessment will be carried out by an independent organisation. For Home and Community Care services, you will be assessed by the Regional Assessment Service (RAS). For Home Care Packages you will be assessed by the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT).
How long will it take to get an assessment?
Waiting times for assessments vary depending on the type of assessment you need. If you have to wait for an assessment and need support right away, we can help you. Find out more about our private services.
What happens at the assessment?
During your assessment, the assessor will talk to you about how you’re managing in your day-to-day life. They will get an understanding of what you need help with and what your goals are to enable you to live well at home. The assessment is likely to take between 45 minutes and 2 hours. The assessor will also ask you who you’d like to provide your care. Be sure to ask for RDNS.
