Allied health services play a vital role in promoting and enhancing health and wellbeing, and Australia’s leading complete in-home care provider Silverchain is celebrating the contribution of its diverse allied health teams on Allied Health Professions Day (14 October 2022).

Our allied health professionals help Australians of all ages to recover from illness or injury, prevent deterioration and maintain their wellbeing.

At Silverchain Group, our allied health teams include occupational therapists, podiatrists, physiotherapists, dietitians, speech pathologists, pharmacists, social workers and exercise physiologists, supported by therapy assistants.

Last financial year, more than 7,300 allied health referrals were supported in Western Australia, by dedicated professionals like Katrina Walton, an occupational therapist in the Peel region.

“Occupational therapists enable people to participate in life how they want to and help them to get back to their favourite activities like gardening. Silverchain’s goal-focused and client-centred approach makes this very rewarding work,” Ms Walton said.

I love working with our older clients, taking the time to really listen to their stories, identify what goals are important to them and work with them to achieve that.

In South Australia, the RDNS Silverchain allied health team has provided more than 24,600 hours of care to clients so far this year.

Adelaide physiotherapist Y Cheng said it was rewarding to be able to bring hope and meaningful improvements to clients.

“Sometimes my role is making sure a client can get out of bed safely and shower despite their disease, pain or movement problems; or sometimes it’s helping them return to their previous hobbies and activities like bowling or going to watch the grandkids play footy or going shopping with their daughter,” Y said.

“For my more active clients, I can help them recover from their surgery or recent injuries and guide their return to exercise or sport.”
