Silverchain expands services to the Cairns Region
Australia’s leading in-home complete health and aged care provider Silverchain is expanding its range of services to Cairns and the Hinterland region with support from the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section). Silverchain will operate out of the RFDS Cairns Base, allowing the service to provide Cairns and Hinterland residents with greater access to high quality in-home care, including palliative care and hospital transition services.
Silverchain’s Executive Director, Queensland, Tamra Bridges said for nearly 130 years, Silverchain has provided Australians with comprehensive care services in the community.
“We are pleased to combine our clinical expertise with RFDS because of their intimate knowledge of the regional and remote areas in Far North Queensland,” Ms Bridges said.
“We are looking forward to working together to evolve care technology and delivering high quality community care to more people.
With Silverchain providing services to the Sunshine Coast community for the past 12 years, the expansion of Silverchain service to Far North Queensland will include a similar suite of health services including an in-home palliative care service, a program supporting elderly clients after hospital, and a program for patients who require ongoing support on discharge.
The RFDS also has a long history of serving the community, providing telehealth, mental health, oral health and health promotion, in addition to aeromedical retrievals of the critically ill or injured.
RFDS (Queensland Section) Executive General Manager, Nursing and Clinical Services, Lee Poole said he is pleased to welcome Silverchain to the Cairns Region.
“Silverchain has a long history of providing quality in-home services and these will benefit the Cairns Region,” Mr Poole said.
“We look forward to collaborating with Silverchain in developing innovative models of care to offer more services throughout Queensland.”
The new Silverchain service will be available to those who are eligible in the Cairns and Hinterland regional councils, through the local hospital network. Clinical staff can visit patients seven days a week and additional support is available via telehealth.
