Can you help us give older South Australians their independence back?
In a state where nearly 50% of people over the age of 80 are expected to move to a nursing home within the next two years, we need your help to research new, ground breaking ways to reduce this statistic.
Over 10 years ago Silver Chain Group developed Australia’s first reablement program - Home Independence Program - which helped those people coming out of hospital who had greater needs than usual. They may have lost their independence and declined in physical condition, things which usually lead to disabilities and most disturbingly a reduced life expectancy.
10 years on, it's thanks to our supporters that we can continue to dedicate vital funds for world class research. Research into how we can work with people to not only improve their quality of life but also reduce their need for ongoing high-level medical care.
With your help we can be ready for the next 10 years of helping people regain their independence. Your donation can help us understand even more about the best way to support people in their own home.
We were there for Judy* when she needed us
Judy had just spent a significant amount of time in hospital and when she moved back home was reliant on her walker as she couldn’t walk unassisted. She’d stopped going out of her house, and thought the only path left for her led to a nursing home. She couldn’t see any future left for her.
Luckily Judy had been allocated a Home Care Package with RDNS. This meant that not only were we able to help her around the house while she recovered, but helped Judy embark on a reablement based programme which included physiotherapy and podiatry. She’s now able to do her own shopping, some cleaning and no longer needs to use her walker on her trips down to the local RSL.
Judy now has a new lease on life - and the nursing home is far off in the distant future!
