Finding opportunities to remind your family of your love, when the time comes that you can no longer tell them, is a difficult challenge to face.
Many people living with a terminal illness, often worry that in the future, their families and friends might forget how much they loved them and special memories may fade.
Creating a memory box is a simple yet powerful keepsake that captures feelings, thoughts and special memories for loved ones.
For our palliative care clients, a memory box is an archive of love and an emotional experience.
It can contain anything special or meaningful that resonates with them and their closest friends and family.
From pictures of their first car, favourite music, stories of the most beautiful places they’ve visited, and the happiest and most memorable experiences in their lives. It can even include their dreams for their children or grandchildren.
While a memory box appears as a physical box, it also has therapeutic purposes too, helping many people find a way to express their emotions in their own personal way. Silver Chain volunteers who spend time with Palliative Care clients often suggest memory boxes to pass on their legacy, memories and wisdom.
