Silver Chain is continuing to expand its reach and impact in Queensland with the commencement of a new Hospital in the Home (HITH) service in Mackay during March.
The service exceeded its initial referral target within the first week, with a steady stream of eligible clients from Mackay Base Hospital being referred to Silver Chain, so they can access acute care in the comfort of their own home.
A space has also been allocated at the Mackay Base Hospital for Silver Chain to set up a clinic which will allow clients to access a doctor should they need to.
Silver Chain Queensland, State Manager, Moira Goodwin, said she is delighted that Silver Chain has been chosen as the sole provider of HITH in Mackay.
“Silver Chain will be the first non-government community healthcare provider to offer HITH in the region, as previously there was only a small service provided by Mackay Base,” Moira said.
“We are excited to partner with Mackay Base Hospital and the Mackay Hospital and Health Service to embed and expand the HITH service.”
As part of our expansion into Mackay a new Silver Chain office has been established and 10 new staff have been employed including a new Clinical Nurse Consultant Manager for the region, Chris Hatch.
Chris said he is excited to be involved in delivering a new innovative health service that will help improve the health and wellbeing of the Mackay community.
The Silver Chain HITH service in Mackay is funded by Queensland Health. In this service medical governance remains with the hospital.
