Silver Chain’s Centre Based Day Care Centres in Mandurah and Fremantle have undergone a name change, with the new title of Social Centre set to be launched to the community in the coming months.
The Rockingham Respite Cottage is also introducing the Social Centre concept and we will look to do the same for our Centre Based Day Care Centres in country areas as well.
Silver Chain Coordinator, Social Centres, Mandy Holmshaw, said the new name was chosen because it better reflects what the centres are all about – preventing social isolation by helping clients build their confidence and social networks in a friendly, active environment.
“Our Social Centres provide a safe and stimulating environment for clients to connect with others in their local community, while enjoying a diverse range of activities, both at the centre and within their community,” Mandy said.
“Empowering clients to try new experiences and participate in various activities contributes to their wellness. It also ensures they continue to integrate in their own community by socialising in the various events and outings that are on offer in their local area.
“Silver Chain’s Social Centres provide carers with an opportunity for daytime respite, knowing their loved one is in safe hands and interacting with others in a comfortable, home-like environment.”
Recently, Social Centre clients have participated in a range of excursions and in-centre activities including taking part in the WA Local Government Association’s annual Banners in the Terrace Competition and making felt poppies for the ANZAC Centenary in Mandurah.
