We are humbled to have recently received the largest personal bequest our organisation has ever seen at $1.9 million.
When she died in 2012, 67 year old Helen McNee bequeathed the vast majority of her estate to Silver Chain, demonstrating her appreciation for the care and assistance she received over many years.
At the age of 23, after completing her studies with first class Honours and starting a career in the public service, Helen was involved in a car accident that left her paraplegic.
Determined to continue to enjoy her life and her independence, after her initial rehabilitation and with the support of Silver Chain, Helen was able to live for most of her life in her own home in and community.
“To some extent the care provided by the organisation complemented what friends and family could offer but went way beyond what they could collectively manage,” her good friend Jan Lord said.
“During those years Helen spoke warmly of her relationship with Silver Chain staff, of her appreciation of their physical and emotional care and of her confidence in the reliability of the service.”
Helen’s vision for the bequest is that it be used to assist clients to continue to live independently at home with the support of Silver Chain.
