Since Silver Chain introduced Consumer Directed Care into Home Care Packages in July this year, the organisation has continued to see clients benefiting from having greater choice and control in the type of care they need to live independently.
Consumer Directed Care is just one part of the Federal Government’s Aged Care Reforms which aim to provide people with easier access to a full range of aged care services, so they can live their best life at home.
“At Silver Chain, we work with you to understand your goals in life and develop a plan that focuses on what you can do and build on your strengths, helping you regain confidence in the activities of daily living,” Silver Chain General Manager, Home Support Service, Anne-Marie Cox, said.
“In addition to your physical health and ability, we focus on your social and emotional wellbeing, which includes supporting you to remain connected with your family, friends and local community.”
For new Home Care Package client, Bob, having domestic assistance weekly and also help with the gardening has made a huge difference not only to his life but also to the life of his wife, Nelly.
Nelly is Bob’s primary carer but she suffers from back pain and struggles to keep up with the day to day tasks around the home as well as looking after Bob.
The help with cleaning and gardening has allowed Nelly to spend more time with Bob, helping him to maintain his existing skills. They are relieved and happy with the help from Silver Chain.
“I can see a future now. When Bob was diagnosed with dementia, I felt that this was just going to be a downhill journey, but now we both feel much more hopeful that we can carry on living in our own home with the assistance from Silver Chain,” Nelly said.
