Carol Pocock’s 80th birthday wish was for friends and family to donate to Silver Chain.
“At 80, you really don’t need gifts anymore. You have what you want, so it’s better to give back to someone that helps others,” Carol said.
Having worked in family planning and responsible for setting up the Sexual Assault Referral Centre at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Carol, now a retired doctor, cares for her husband Derek, who is a Silver Chain Palliative Care client.
“We have been very happy with Derek’s care, and he did so well last year, we decided we didn’t need support for a while.
“Unfortunately, Derek did have a health issue in October and we got Silver Chain back to help.
“I was worried he may not make it to my birthday, but thankfully he did. I was so grateful to have him celebrate my 80th birthday with me at Kings Park last December.”
We’d like to send a special thank you to Derek and Carol, whose birthday wish has helped raise close to $350 for Silver Chain.
