The team from Silver Chain’s Mandurah Social Centre recently held a market with a difference and much fun was had by everyone who attended from across the Peel region.
Silver Chain, Social Centre Coordinator, Mandy Holmshaw, said often people in the community, who are socially isolated, are unable to attend community events due to ill-health, disability or transportation issues.
“At Silver Chain, we wanted to do something to support people who may be feeling socially isolated so we created our own market to bring the community together and we transported our clients to and from the event,” Mandy explained.
Silver Chain collaborated with Mandurah Boardwalk Markets to develop a range of diverse market stalls and activities for the day. There was also a sausage sizzle, yoga workshop, petting zoo and a bouncy castle.
“The market enabled Silver Chain clients and the community to come together, interact with each other, and have a fun day. It was also a fantastic opportunity for our clients to interact with children, as intergenerational projects are great for both generations,’’ she said.
“One of the highlights of the day was the fashion show, which featured our very own Social Centre clients on the catwalk, modelling the latest fashion. Those who took part really had a ball.
“Thank you to the Mandurah Boardwalk Market, all of the staff, volunteers and local businesses as well as the stall holders who helped make the event possible.”
