People facing the end of their life who wish to spend their last days at home are set to benefit from the expansion of Silver Chain’s Palliative Care Home Support Packages in metropolitan and regional New South Wales.
In November, we began providing additional packages of care in three new regions of NSW, in partnership with the Local Health Districts (LHDs). In Northern NSW we expanded into the Tweed Heads, Murwillumbah and Byron region, in Mid North Coast we expanded into the Hastings Macleay region (Port Macquarie, Wauchope and Kempsey) and in Hunter New England we expanded into the Maitland district.
Commencing early in 2016, we will also be providing additional packages of care in three new regions on the outskirts of Sydney. Working in partnership with the LHDs, services will soon be available in the Southern Highlands, Shoalhaven and Upper Blue Mountains and Lithgow regions.
Silver Chain Director of Palliative Services in NSW, Kath Skinner, said she is really excited to be part of a service that continues to grow and expand in NSW as it builds a reputation for providing safe, high quality clinical care for people who wish to spend their last days at home.
“To ensure we can continue to meet the growing demand for our services across the state, we have recently recruited and trained several new teams of highly skilled Registered Nurses and Assistants in Nursing.” Kath said.
“There is something very special about our nurses. We know this because we hear it time and time again from the families we support. It’s a privilege to be leading an extraordinary team of nurses and working in partnership with the LHD palliative care teams to provide this valuable service to NSW,” Kath said.
All Silver Chain’s services are fully funded by the NSW Ministry of Health.
