Silver Chain Shark Bay services 128kms to the North West Coastal Highway, 80kms to Woramol Roadhouse, 50kms to Billabong Roadhouse and 28kms to Monkey Mia. The nearest hospital is 300kms. The fly in General Practitioner visits twice weekly. Shark Bay has a stable population of 797, data collected from accommodation managers show that they are full to capacity during school holidays, Easter and Christmas public holidays; this brings the population up to 2540. On average Shark Bay accommodation is almost at capacity from May to October each year.  Historically January and February are the quiet periods in Shark Bay however indications are that in recent years this trend is starting to change with no defined “quiet” period anymore. Infrastructure has been fortified with a new school and Silver Chain nursing clinic.

Silver Chain plan and co-ordinate a range of services including emergency services, prevention and health promotion, disease control, maternal / school / child health and development screening.

Silver Chain conducts regular evaluation through survey and feedback from staff and the community to ensure service delivery and the model of care is linked to priorities and needs.

Primary health and chronic disease management are important service provision across all Silver Chain sites. Nationally, there is a strong focus around primary health, capacity building communities and working strong partnerships with key health care providers.

Silver Chain works in close collaboration with other key stakeholders such as  WA Country Health Service (WACHS), St John Ambulance (SJA), Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS), State Emergency Service (SES) and Fire & Emergency Services Authority of Western Australia (FESA) to respond to (accident) and emergency when requested and when available.
