RDNS SA needs the community's help to give 'Breathing Space' to clients
11 September 2013 RDNS SA is calling on the South Australian community to support their 2013 Spring Appeal and help raise vital funds to support their Breathing Space Program.
Anne Skipper, Chair of RDNS SA, says the not for profit organisation introduced the Breathing Space Program eight years ago and since has been able to assist clients who are experiencing financial hardship by providing one-off purchases and modest assistance.
“Primarily funded by our staff, who voluntarily make donations through their pay, the Breathing Space Program provides assistance to help clients in times of need and we hope this helps them in some way.
“Our direct care staff identify client’s who might need a helping hand and apply to the program on the client’s behalf. The program is only available to RDNS SA clients and they have to be a current client who is experiencing financial hardship and needs help immediately,” Mrs Skipper says.
Capped at $300.00 per client, the requests for help are quite specific. In the last six months, RDNS SA has been able to assist almost 20 people.
“We were able to purchase a bed for a client, provide assistance to help the purchasing of items including pharmacy items and medication, pay bills and provide supermarket gift vouchers. In the past we have also been able to provide essential food items, purchase medic alert bracelets and pay much needed ambulance cover through insurance funds,” Mrs Skipper continues.
“All too often our direct care staff describe to us many situations where clients are living in poverty or who maybe experiencing financial hardship. With the help of our direct care staff and the Breathing Space Program we can genuinely assist those most in need.
“RDNS SA would like to be able to help many more clients who our direct care staff believe need some financial relief and with the support of the South Australian community we will be able to do so.”
