Silver Chain was founded in 1905 and has been growing ever since. During the 2008/2009 financial year, Silver Chain assisted more than 40,000 people, delivered more than 1.3 million hours of care and over 1.6 million occasions of service (June 2009).
Silver Chain currently employs 2,600 staff (June 2009).
Silver Chain has almost 400 volunteers who actively support our organisation (June 2009).
Our staff also travelled 12,632,206 kilometres in our Silver Chain fleet vehicles during 2008/2009
(Apr 08 - Mar 09). We have more than 580 vehicles in our fleet (June 2009).
In 2002 there were 211,000 people aged 65 years and older in Western Australia, representing 11.2% of the states total population (Aged and Community Services Western Australia). By 2051 there will be an expected 783,100 people aged 65 years and older living in Western Australia, representing 28.3% of the states population (Active Ageing Taskforce).
