Silver Chain Human Research Ethics Committee
Our ethics committee and its meetings
Silver Chain’s Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) is registered with the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and complies with the rules and regulations of the NHMRC. HREC's first meeting was held on 9 September 2004 and it has eight members.
Only applications from suitably qualified or supervised persons will be considered. Silver Chain retains the absolute right to approve, refuse, defer, limit or cease involvement in any research at its discretion.
HREC meetings
The HREC usually meets quarterly on the second Thursday of March, June, September and December. Proposed meetings for 2010 and 2011 are:

Who needs to use the ethics committee?
All researchers whose project will involve using the name Silver Chain or its data, equipment or premises, or the participation of clients, students or staff.
How to apply
All applications must be made on Silver Chain’s Research Application and Ethics Application forms which must be accompanied by a copy of a full proposal and any data collection instruments to be used. Where client and staff consent is necessary, a copy of the information statement(s) and consent form(s) must also be submitted. Any other study documentation such as recruitment and appointment letters must also be included. Please see the Researchers Information Sheet for further information.
All documents must be typed and signed. The completed forms and supporting documentation must be forwarded to the Research Support Co-ordinator by email ethics@silverchain.org.au or by mail to:

Timetable for submission of applications
Applications must be received a minimum of 28 days prior to a meeting date, if the application is to be ready to proceed to the HREC meeting. See above table for dates.
