WoundsWest© Project
Thanks to a grant of $1.6 million from the Department of Health, Silver Chain along with Curtin University will be establishing the WoundsWest© Project over the next three years. The WoundsWest© project will provide health care practitioners with a wound prediction, prevention, management and support system for all wound categories in Western Australia. The support system will include the development and implementation of evidence based clinical guidelines and state wide wound audits to establish the magnitude of wounds across the state. This has never been achieved before.
A remote electronic referral system will also be developed. This will enable people living in country and remote areas of Western Australia to have their wounds diagnosed by a clinician in Perth, through the use of digital imaging, without having to travel vast distances. The clinician will then be able to communicate expert advice with the general practitioner or nurse treating the wound. Further information about the WoundsWest© Project can be found at www.health.wa.gov.au/woundswest.
